Bardolino
Bardolino is most commonly found in the region of Verona, Italy. It gets it name from the town on the shores of Lake Garda named Bardolino. In 1968 Bardolino was given a DOC status. Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara are the grapes used to produce Bardolino as well as Valpolicella wines. Although they share the same grapes, they have different characteristics: Valpolicella has more body and structure than Bardolino. Veneto is west of Venice and Northwest of Verona. Bardolino is a light, fruity pinkish, fresh red wine.
There is a Superiore version of Bardolino which has more complexity. Bardolino is sometimes made into a dry rose named “Chiaretto” which is a sparkling wine. Towards the end of summer there is a festival named “The Bardolino grape & Wine festival or (festa dell’uva). It’s a celebration where food is served and awards are given to the best wines of the year. The grapes are purple tinged and ruby red with medium intensity. The elegance of this wine comes from the spicy nuances of cinnamon and black pepper that dance on the palate. Full bodied with a long finish and full savory flavors, anyone can be enticed to try it.
