Petit Verdot
Used in many Bordeaux blends, this red wine grape ripens later than other varietals. When added to blends it adds color, flavor and tannins. The history of this varietal predates Cabernet Sauvignon in the Bordeaux region. First documentation of this varietal was around the 18th century. Petit Verdot is also located in regions of Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Italy, U.S. and Venezuela.
Petit Verdot translates to “small green” and is one of the downsides of this grape because often the berries fail to develop without the proper climate and weather. Due to recent improvements and techniques in viticulture, Petit Verdot has made a comeback in Bordeaux. Petit Verdot is used mostly like a spice is used in cooking. A little bit of this grape goes a long way. It is very rare but sometimes this varietal is found bottled as a stand-alone varietal. The wine produced is spicy, rich in color and high in tannins and alcohol. This wine pairs well with robust meats and rich aged cheeses.

Deep red with vivid violet hues, intense and brilliant. It displays intense red fruits, that could remind us fresh plums and cherries with subtle floral notes such as roses and sweet spices in harmony with caramel, vanilla and moca. It has great volume and concentration, velvety texture and an equilibrated acidity. The tannins are sweet. It is very persistent and has a very long after taste. The wine matches perfectly with roasted red meats, ripe cheese or also stands beauti- fully on its own.
