Ribera Del Duero
Ribera del Duero is located in the northern plateau along the course of the Duero River. Duero is one of the eleven high quality wine regions and is known for its largely flat and rocky terrain. There is a long history of winemaking in Duero that many believe was introduced by the Benedictine monks from the Burgundy region of France around the 12th century. There are many similarities between Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Focused mainly on the production of red wine, Ribera del Duero has only one white grape variety, the Albillo grape, which is mostly consumed by the locals.
Ribera del Duero has four provinces named Castilla y Leon, Burgos, Segovia, Soria, and Valladolid. There are over 250 wineries spread across the regions 20,000 hectares (1 hectare=10,000 meters) of vineyards. The best-known winery from the region is Vega Sicilia. Some of Spain’s old architecture lies in this region. Ribero del Duero was considered the old seat of Spanish nobility when the Moors still controlled the southern parts of the country. Ribero del Duero is higher in altitude then its neighbors.
Ribera del Duero produces wine from the Tempranillo grape but they called it Tinto Fino. Many say this region makes some of the best red wine in the world. Tempranillo makes up to 95% of wine production in the region. The vineyards that stretch along the Duero River are known as “the Miracle Mile.” Duero produces the 2nd largest amount of wine under Rioja.

89 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A core of cherry and plum gives way to tar, mineral and hoisin sauce notes in this dense red. This shows solid tannins, but remains graceful through the spicy finish. Drink now through 2018. 2,000 cases imported."
