Sweet Rose
Historically most of the rose wines from earlier times were dry, and bold and their colors can range anywhere between pale orange to deep purple. There are three ways to produce rose wines which include; skin contact, saignee, and blending. After World War II the demand for white wine increased dramatically. The demand for white wines exceeded the availability of white grapes. Many producers experimented making white wines from red grape varietals. Sutter Home Winery was one of the pioneers behind the creation of white zinfandel. One cause for a Sweet Rose Wine is due to the fermentation process ending before the sugar turns into alcohol. The term blush originally was a term coined for the color of the wine but in recent times has been used internationally to describe a sweeter wine. Some examples of sweet rose are: Mateus rose, White Zinfandel, etc.
Classic White Zinfandel meets tangy raspberry, lime and plum. Refreshing and light, a perfect blend of naturally tart fruit and semi-dry wine flavors. This flavor is best served chilled.

I have always been intrigued by what happens when I blend two wines together. The result is often more complex and interesting than each wine on its own, somewhat in the way great food combinations (tomatoes and basil or salmon and dill) seem to raise the flavor intensity in each ingredient. I like to layer flavors in wine, like the juicy berry, subtle watermelon and bright citrus notes in the White Zinfandel, with the barrel-fermented Chardonnay to enhance texture and depth. Chardonnay seemed like the perfect partner for the richly flavored White Zinfandel, and Im very pleased with the results.--Ed Sbragia
