Tuscan White
Tuscany is located on the west coast of Italy just north of Rome and is famed for its Vernaccia di San Gimignano. This is the best DOC for the Vernaccia grape. Vernaccia was once labeled as Italy's finest white wine. It is well made, crisp and dry with delicate fruit. Another white from Tuscany is the Trebbiano grape, which in recent years have become a little lack luster. Another rising star grape in Tuscany is Vermintino or Rolle, it is sometimes blended to other white grapes to increase complexity but even on its own it handles the delicate oak aging well and leaves you with an intriguingly mouth filling feel on the palate along with herbal hints reminiscent of fennel and liquorices. It has a dry, lingering finish that leaves you wanting more. The DOC of Montecarlo produces existing lively white blends called Montecarlo Bianco. The grapes used in these blends are a mixture of any number of these varieties; Trebbiano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne and Semillon. These blends are elegant and clean with subtle nuances of fruit. All of these blending grapes are used to make single variety bottling as well. Such is the case of Pinot Bianco or Pinot Blanc, a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir. These wines are full bodied with aromas of apples, citrus, and flowers. On the palate, stone fruit and minerality dominate. Due to these strong youth fill characteristics these wines are not meant for the cellar. The DOC of Domino is also known for its exciting white blends often Chardonnay based. These wines are extremely fruity with scents of apple, pear and bananas. They are round, smooth and rich on the palate. These wines are truly elegant and well balanced with a finish that lingers.
Straw yellow in color, the wine is elegant and classy in its aromas, which recall pineapple and peach fruit and white flowers. Full and savory in flavor and with a good aromatic persistence, it is a wine of much drinking pleasure.

91 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Batar is rather pointed and focused in this vintage, which also happens to be one of the most elegant I can remember. There is wonderful purity and energy in the ripe peach fruit with subtle undertones of flowers, minerals and French oak that add complexity. The oak seems dialed down in 2008 and what comes through is the exceptional beauty of fruit planted on these high-altitude hillside vineyards. Batar is 50% Pinot Blanc and 50% Chardonnay aged in French oak barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018."
