Vinho verde is a Portugese white wine and the name is translated to mean “Green Wine”. The name refers to its freshness. The vines are trained up high due to the moisture in the region and to leave room to cultivate crops below the vines. These wines are light and fresh and should be consumed young. They aren’t considered a sparkling wine but do have some crispness to them. History dated these grapes back to 870 AD. The vinho Verde region is divided into nine sub regions. Characteristics include natural acidity with fruity floral aromas with an alcohol level anywhere between 8.5 to 11%.
