White Bordeaux
White Bordeaux is produced in France. Bordeaux is known to produce some of the most expensive wines in the world. The history goes back to 48 AD, where the Romans were given credit for some of the first vineyards established. Productions of white wines have declined drastically in the Bordeaux region. Most of the white bordeaux wine produced is from varietals like sauvignon blanc, semillon and muscadelle. Semillon was one of the most planted varietals before 1960 but has been replaced by the popularity of sauvignon blanc. Most of the wines that come from Bordeaux are blends. There are two styles of white bordeaux that are produced.
Dry bordeaux come mostly out of the Graves area with wines made with 100% sauvignon blanc or blends with sauvignon blanc being the dominate grape.
Sweet bordeaux is mostly made from semillon, muscadelle and sauvignon blanc that are affected by noble rot. Some of the most popular sweet wines come from the Sauternes region.
